This is a quality mens fedora hat by Charles Knox of New York dating to, I believe, the 1950s.  Knox was a venerable hatmaker, founded by Charles Knox in 1838, and making its reputation with top hats, which were the popular style of hat during the 19th century.  They are considered one of the premier quality makers, along with Dobbs and Cavanaugh. This mens fedora is made of Canadian beaver fur felt in a dark charcoal colour, almost black, or could be considered black.  The sweatband is gold stamped “Canadian Beaver” and with the retailer’s name “Max Beauvais Limited 385 St. James Street W Montreal” and with the original owner’s monogram “BMB”.  The retailer inventory tag has the price of $25.00.  The foil tag sizes the hat as a 7 1/4 - it measures 22 1/2” around the sweat band and 7 7/8” by 6 5/8” across the opening.  The brim measures 2” in width and the crown measures 5” in height.  This mens fedora is pre-owned, but very clean with no pronounced wear and just a little bit of toning to the liner, really minor.  This is a fabulous mens fedora hat - wonderful style!
