  • Product Description

This is a vintage 50s skinny tie that was custom made by Ernest J Carston.  Carston was a travelling tie salesman during the 1940s, who established his Chicago tie shop in 1944.  His store was eventually moved to 735 Michigan Ave, one of the original fashion stores on the Magnificent Mile.  His client list included President Lyndon Johnson, Senator Barry Goldwater and pianist Vladimir Horowitz.  This skinny tie has a narrow width, measuring 2 5/8” in width and 62” in length.  It is made of a deep brown textured silk that is decorated with two other brown toned silk bars across the front.  Mr. Carston would travel to Europe every year to source the best quality silk from Switzerland, Italy and France.  The label on this skinny tie reads “Ernest J. Carston 735 N. Michigan Ave” and a second label reads “Custom Made for Joseph Naglich”. It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odours - this is ready to wear.  Very nice quality - collectible skinny tie of superior quality!
