This is a 1970s Indian silk dress made in India for the Treacy Lowe London brand. The fabric is printed with a striking geometric pattern in tones of red, blue, orange, and teal green against a black background colour.  This 1970s Indian silk dress comes with a separate piece that can be worn either as a headband or as a belt - I’ve posed the dress both ways (see photos).  The silk is lightweight and gauzy, beautiful quality and lovely for summer wear.  This 1970s Indian silk dress has a V shaped neckline, flared elbow length sleeves and a lower calf length. The dress is lined in black silk and is loose fitting with a skirt gathered in tucks below the waistline so that it falls in drapes.  This 1970s Indian silk dress does up with a nylon zipper down the lower back and has an open slit upper back that does up at the back neck with hooks and eyes.

Label:  Made in India For Treacy Lowe London. To Be Dry Cleaned.  Treacy Lowe was started in 1971 by Kathy Lowe Howden with her husband Kenneth Howden.  Lowe started her fashion career in 1948, working for Marshall Fields and Import Bazaar.  In 1966 she became a merchandising coordinator for Jaeger in London.  Her dresses sold for between $120 and $300 during the mid-70s, an expensive price point for that time.

Content label:  100% silk.  Made in India CA00300.  The CA number belonged to Simpsons Ltd, c/o HBC Private Brands.  Simpsons was a Canadian department store that was owned during the 70s by the Hudson’s Bay Company.

Size: Size 10 is indicated, and although this 1970s Indian silk dress should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the dress into account:

Shoulders:  15 3/4” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 12 1/2” long

Bust: 38” around, taken under the armpits, meant to be a little loose

Waist: 31" around 

Length: 48“, measured lying flat

Condition: This 1970s Indian silk dress is in very good condition with no wear, tear, staining or odour - the content label has some soiling, but I don’t perceive soiling on the garment itself.  This 1970s Indian silk dress looks to have seen little use.
