The 8875 is similar to 9874 & 9875 in that it is a vintage Irish Setter reproduction. The “Red Wing” name is embossed on the inside quarter of the boot and the backstay chain-stitch is once again done on our ancient Puritan Stitch machine, which has its origins in the 1890s. We use the same mahogany and sage thread of the original and the top band is double-stitched. All of these features are subtle differences from our standard No. 877 Classic Work Boot but they add up to an Irish Setter that is both unique and true to its name. However, it uses a Irish Setter logo standards from a different era. Rather than using a woven label, it uses an Irish Setter screen-printed logo in it’s place. This rendition also eliminates the bar-tack stitching and uses a taslan lace in place of the original leather laces.

ABOUT THE TOP BAND STITCH

The top band is a material to reinforce the top line of the boots. Originally we stitched twice on the bottom edge and top line edge of the top band. The current Classic Work 6-inch Moc top band stitch is simplified and stitched once at the middle of the top band bottom and top line. Stitching twice on the top band has also been reproduced.

TWO-ROW PURITAN CHAIN STITCH

The backstay stitch of the original Irish Setter 6-inch Moc was stitched by a two-row Puritan chain stitch machine, which changed to a lockstitch with the Classic Work 6-inch Moc. The new Irish Setter is sewn with the old Puritan two-row chain stitch machine, like the original Irish Setter.
