Our FW17 collection is all about drama and romance, and as my design process progressed earlier this year, I kept reminding myself of this and asking myself if there was anything I could do to increase the drama of each piece. The Odette Top, of everything in the collection, probably benefited from my instance on drama the most. The high neck and front pleats give the top a refined, romantic elegance, and the inclusion of both split sleeves and a split hem provide some next-level drama.
After designing my first prototype of the Odette, pleats and flutters and slits included, I realized it was perfect — except for the fact that with the high neck, there was no way to possibly get it on! A pretty embarassing mistake to make, yes, but one easily fixed by three vintage mother-of-pearl buttons dotting the back: the perfect romantic touch to a stunner of a blouse.
This top is made of a a 35mm silk noil fabric from China, hand-dyed in our studio with acid dyes to be a bright scarlet red. Made from the fibers left over after spinning silk, silk noil (also known as raw silk) is unlike any other kind of silk: nubby, dense, and matte, but with a drape so luxurious you know it just has to be silk.
In addition to the fabric, this top uses cotton thread, three vintage mother-of-pearl buttons, organic cotton interfacing, and organic cotton labels.
Take a look at our Size Guide to find your size.
The Odette is most fitted in the bust, so use that measurement when determining your size. The style runs true to size, but I recommend sizing up if you're in between sizes.
Sarah is wearing a size 4 and is 5'9" with a 33" bust, 24" waist, and 35" hip.
