Named from the Dutch word pije, which describes a garment made from coarse wool, the pea coat was invented by the Dutch and popularized by the British navy. It made its way to the US navy who adopted it for its ability to stand up to the harsh conditions experienced out at sea.
This pea coat is crafted from pure Harris Tweed, woven in a small cottage community in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.
