"Inspired by bestiaries of the past, McDonagh reflects on the blurred line that separates humans from animals from other worldly being, creating an alternate reality where all forms of like are seen as equal. Reminiscent of creatures such as dragons, griffins and centaurs, these new whimsical creatures take their own place within traditional folkloric elements. By mixing fact and fable in Fabulous Bearts, McDonagh comments on the precarious balance between life and death, chaos and peace, and good and evil, universally present in the myths of diverse lands, cultures and histories"
