... For me,
Perhaps I am not worthy, as you say,
Of work like this! ... perhaps a woman's soul
Aspires, and not creates! yet we aspire,
And yet I'll try out your perhapses, sir;
And if I fail ... why, burn me up my straw
Like other false works—I'll not ask for grace,
Your scorn is better, cousin Romney. I
Who love my art, would never wish it lower
To suit my stature. ...
– Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Aurora Leigh
Confident and powerful, Aurora pursues her passion with complete determination. I designed the Aurora Pants with a woman like Aurora Leigh in mind, a woman who is strong, kind, and doesn't let anyone tell her what she can and cannot do. A high waist and wide leg give the Aurora pants a sense of power, while soft front pleats and a fitted back add a dose of femininity.
These pants are made of a blend of hemp and wool that is woven in Japan. The fabric is relatively heavyweight, with a dense weave that almost feels like felt. The weave has an organic imperfection which, combined with the faded green color, makes it seem like an antique. Due to the wool, the fabric is a tad scratchy, so make sure to wear something underneath if you have sensitive skin. The fabric is dyed a dark mossy green that, in different lighting, spans the spectrum of light greyish-green to deep forest-y charcoal.
In addition to the fabric, these pants use cotton thread, a YKK zipper, two vintage mother of pearl buttons, silk bias binding/pocket lining, cotton interfacing, and cotton garment labels.
Take a look at our Size Guide to find your size.
The Aurora Pants are fitted in the waist and the hips, so use both measurements when determining your size. This pant runs true to size; however, if you fall in between sizes, I recommend sizing up if you'd like a looser, more lower-slung pant and sizing down if you'd like a more fitted look.
Alyssa is wearing a size 4 and is 5'8" with a 35" bust, 27" waist, and 37" hip.
